About Stomach Liposuction
Stomach liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that can remove stubborn, diet-resistant fat from your midsection. This procedure utilizes a suction cannula to break down targeted fat and sculpt the body, leaving patients with a more defined and flattering figure. (1) Because it is so effective, surgeons often consider liposuction as the gold standard for fat removal. For years, it has remained one of the most frequently performed surgical procedures worldwide. (2)
Benefits
There are numerous benefits of undergoing stomach liposuction, including:
- Targeted Removal: Dr. Demaree’s expertise allows him to precisely target fat around the stomach, including deposits in more delicate or hard-to-reach areas.
- Enhanced Contours: Stomach liposuction can address imbalanced or asymmetrical contours to restore a more proportionate and harmonious appearance to your figure.
- Tailored Treatment Plans: Each treatment plan that Dr. Demaree creates is fully personalized around the patient’s anatomy and goals.
- Long-Lasting Results: The results of stomach liposuction are generally permanent, as the fat cells cannot return after removal.
Candidates
If you struggle with stubborn fat around your stomach region that seems to resist exercise and dieting efforts, you may benefit from stomach liposuction. For patients who are frustrated by this bothersome fat, liposuction can offer an effective solution to body sculpting.
To undergo this procedure, you should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding what you can achieve. You should already be at a stable and maintainable weight before your procedure, as future fluctuations can compromise your results. You should also have good skin elasticity, as this will allow your skin to retract to your new contours. It is also important that you are nicotine-free or willing to quit for an extended period of time. Dr. Demaree will confirm your candidacy during your personal consultation and let you know if a different procedure would be more appropriate.
Personal Consultation
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to body contouring, which is why we ask that you attend a personal consultation with Dr. Demaree before undergoing your procedure. At this appointment, Dr. Demaree will inquire about your medical history, personal concerns, and aesthetic goals. He will also assess your stomach area and skin quality.
Dr. Demaree will use this information to finalize your candidacy and create a one-of-a-kind treatment plan for your concerns. As he does so, he will explain each step in detail, ensuring you have a full understanding of what you can expect before, during, and after your procedure. He will also answer any questions that arise, as this consultation is meant to be educational, informational, and empowering for you.

Preparation
After finalizing your procedure, Dr. Demaree and his team will provide you with a detailed set of pre-operative instructions. These may include:
- Avoiding Specific Medications: Under the proper guidance, discontinue taking any medications or supplements that may thin the blood.
- Arranging Time to Rest: Schedule time away from your professional and personal responsibilities so that you can focus on your recovery.
- Preparing Transportation: Have a trusted friend or relative drive you home and, if necessary, assist you for the first 24 to 48 hours of your recovery.
- Filling Your Prescriptions: Acquire any medications you will need during your recovery.
- Eating Healthily: Maintain a nutritious and balanced diet leading up to your appointment date so that your body is healthy, strong, and prepared for treatment.
- Ceasing Use of Certain Substances: Refrain from consuming any nicotine or tobacco at least four weeks before your procedure. You may be advised to avoid alcohol for a period as well.
Procedure
When you arrive for your procedure, Dr. Demaree will meet with you again to confirm the details of your treatment plan. Once you are ready, he will cleanse your skin, and you will receive the appropriate anesthesia.
After making a small incision in the treatment area, Dr. Demaree will inject tumescent fluid. This fluid is a mixture of epinephrine, lidocaine, and saline. It constricts your blood vessels, further numbs the local tissues, and swells the fat cells, making fat removal easier and more precise. (1)
Dr. Demaree will then insert a suction cannula through the same incision to break up the fat and remove it from the abdomen.
Recovery
After your procedure, you can expect some bruising, swelling, and general discomfort around your stomach and its surrounding regions. These side effects will decrease on their own as you continue to heal, but you may manage them with prescribed medications and rest. Dr. Demaree will also have you wear a specialized compression garment for several weeks to reduce further swelling and maintain your figure as your tissues continue to settle. You should wear this garment as directed.
You will be able to return to most of your daily activities after resting for several days, although the exact timeline may vary. As you start to integrate more activities into your routine, you will still need to avoid anything arduous or demanding until Dr. Demaree approves.
He will provide additional instructions when meeting with you in person. We ask that you follow all instructions closely, as the quality of your aftercare can influence the results of your procedure.
Patient experiences may vary.
Results
You will be able to enjoy the full results of your stomach liposuction once any residual swelling subsides. Your stomach will appear smoother and flatter, and your figure will appear more proportionate and defined overall.
The results of stomach liposuction are generally considered to be permanent, as fat cells cannot regenerate. However, the surrounding fat cells can still swell, making it essential to practice healthy lifestyle habits to preserve the optimal effects of your procedure.

FAQ
Can stomach liposuction help me lose weight?
No, stomach liposuction cannot help you lose weight, as it is a body-contouring procedure. One of the eligibility requirements actually says patients should already have a stable weight several months before their procedure, so if you are trying to lose weight, Dr. Demaree may recommend postponing your procedure.
What is tumescent fluid?
Tumescent fluid is a specialized combination of epinephrine, lidocaine, and saline that we inject into the fat deposits at the beginning of the procedure. This swells the fat to make the removal process easier and more precise, further numbs the area, and minimizes bleeding. (3)
Is there a difference between traditional liposuction and stomach liposuction?
Stomach liposuction is a variation of the traditional liposuction procedure that focuses on contouring the stomach and abdominal area rather than the whole body.
How much fat will Dr. Demaree remove during my procedure?
The amount of fat that Dr. Demaree removes will vary according to your anatomy, the location of the fat deposits, and your desired results. During your consultation, he will discuss how much fat he plans to remove.
Can Dr. Demaree use liposuction to contour several areas of the body within one treatment session?
Yes, Dr. Demaree can address multiple regions of the body in one appointment. If you are interested in recontouring several different areas, we ask that you schedule a personal consultation so that he may discuss it in further detail.
