About Juvéderm
Juvéderm is a family of dermal fillers designed to restore volume to various areas of the face. Juvéderm fillers are composed of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance found throughout the body, especially in connective tissues, joints, and eyes. This substance is deeply hydrating and bonds to water molecules in the skin to enhance volume.
Soft tissue fillers, such as Juvéderm, have grown in popularity over the last few years. There was a 70% growth in performed injections between 2019 and 2022, (1) with another 8% growth in 2023, with over 5.29 million injections being administered in 2023 alone. (2)
Benefits
Juvéderm offers patients numerous advantages, including:
- Non-Surgical Treatment: Juvéderm is administered through injections, eliminating the need for invasive surgery and its associated risks.

- Versatile Treatment: Juvéderm can be used to address concerns across various facial areas, such as the lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds, and more.
- Enhanced Confidence: Patients often experience an increase in self-esteem and confidence after receiving injections from an expert.

Suitable Candidates for Juvéderm
Suitable candidates for Juvéderm include men or women who are interested in restoring or enhancing facial volume. All candidates interested in Juvéderm should be in good overall health and hold realistic expectations regarding what this treatment can accomplish. Candidates are typically over 21, in accordance with FDA guidelines.
Patients who are under the age of 21, are pregnant, have a lidocaine allergy, or have certain underlying health conditions may not be eligible for injections. However, these individuals are still encouraged to schedule a consultation so that our team may find a suitable alternative for them.
Personal Consultation
Patients will first be asked to attend a personal consultation with one of our aesthetic specialists. This meeting is not only a chance for our team to get to know the patient better, but also to understand how we can tailor the treatment to help them achieve their goals. Consultation may start with a series of questions regarding the patient’s medical history, current medications, desired results, and concerns. A medical examination may also be performed to evaluate facial anatomy.
From there, the specialist will craft the patient’s treatment, personalizing certain aspects to help maximize each benefit. Any necessary preparation and recovery instructions will also be provided, as well as a cost estimate for the treatment. The patient is encouraged to prepare and ask questions, and voice any concerns they may have about the procedure. Our team wants every patient to feel confident and informed about their procedure!

Preparation
The injection specialist will provide the patient with a set of instructions during their consultation to help them prepare for their appointment. While preparation for Juvéderm is fairly straightforward and minimal, patients are still strongly recommended to follow each instruction for the best possible outcome. Patients will need to avoid taking medications and herbal supplements that contain blood-thinning properties, and alcohol consumption should be avoided before and after the procedure. Patients will also need to alter or modify their skincare routine to avoid the use of harsh products, such as retinols/retinoids, chemical peels, and exfoliants. It is also recommended to maintain a nutritious diet and stay hydrated in the days leading up to the patient’s treatment.
Procedure
On the day of the patient’s procedure, they should arrive with a clean face, free of any makeup or skincare products. Juvéderm is formulated with lidocaine to help minimize any discomfort, but a topical anesthetic may also be applied for those with more sensitive skin. The specialist will use a fine needle to administer the treatment, meticulously injecting certain areas of the face to restore a more youthful-looking appearance. The duration of each Juvéderm session is fairly quick, with appointments typically lasting less than an hour.
Recovery
After the injections, it is normal to experience redness, mild swelling, or tenderness near the injection sites. There is little downtime associated with Juvéderm, meaning that patients can typically return to their daily routine after their appointment. However, the specialist may also ask patients to avoid touching, massaging, or putting pressure on the treated areas. Any further recovery instructions will be provided by the specialist during the personal consultation.
Results

Patients may notice visual improvements immediately after their treatment, but the full results will become more visible within 1-2 weeks following the appointment. (3) Patients can enjoy plump, rejuvenated skin and a restoration of facial volume. The results of Juvéderm can last for up to two years, depending on the formula used and each patient’s metabolism. (3) Over time, the hyaluronic acid in the filler will naturally be absorbed by each patient’s body. If patients wish to maintain their results, they are welcome to consider reinjection when appropriate.
Corresponding Procedures
Many procedures can be performed in conjunction with Juvéderm injections for more comprehensive results. Some of the most popular include Botox and Morpheus8.
- Botox: Botox is an injectable designed to relax the facial muscles responsible for repeated, dynamic movements that cause wrinkles. This treatment is a neuromodulator, meaning it blocks nerve signals to prevent these muscle contractions.
- Morpheus8: Morpheus8 is a cutting-edge non-surgical treatment that combines both radiofrequency energy and microneedling to help stimulate the production of collagen. This treatment can be used to address multiple areas of the body, and can help rejuvenate the skin, improve the appearance of scars and stretch marks, tighten loose skin, and more!
