Preparation
In preparation for their procedure, each patient will receive a set of pre-operative guidelines from Dr. Demaree. Instructions often include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Temporarily stop taking any medications or supplements with blood-thinning properties, with approval from your primary care physician.
- Arrange time off from work in advance.
- Secure transportation home after the procedure.
- Fill and pick up any prescriptions or medications before the procedure.
- If applicable, stop smoking several weeks in advance and avoid all nicotine or tobacco use throughout the recovery period.
Procedure
Dr. Demaree can combine many different procedures for a mommy makeover. Popular procedures include breast lifts, breast augmentation, tummy tucks, and liposuction.
Breast Lift
A breast lift is a procedure that repositions and reshapes the breasts to address ptosis (sagging). (2) Dr. Demaree performs this procedure to enhance the breasts without adding any additional volume, as well as to reshape or reposition malpositioned nipples.
Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a procedure that enhances the size and fullness of the breasts. Dr. Demaree can perform this procedure using either synthetic implants or a fat transfer. (3) Dr. Demaree offers both saline and silicone implants for implant-based augmentation.
Fat transfer augmentation uses liposuction techniques to harvest the fat from an area with excess fat. Dr. Demaree can gently remove excess fat before purifying it and reinjecting it into the breasts, creating fuller, more natural-looking and feeling results.
Tummy Tuck
A tummy tuck is a procedure that removes excess tissue from the abdomen while simultaneously strengthening and tightening weakened or separated muscles. Also known as an abdominoplasty, this procedure creates a slimmer, flatter stomach. The navel may also be reshaped or repositioned during a tummy tuck for a more proportionate appearance.
Liposuction
Liposuction, also known as suction-assisted lipectomy, is a minimally invasive procedure designed to address stubborn deposits of fat from around the body. (4) Dr. Demaree uses a specialized tumescent solution to help swell and dislodge the fat cells before a suctioning cannula is used to remove them from the body.
Recovery
Following a mommy makeover, it is common for patients to experience swelling, bruising, or discomfort in the treated areas. These effects are temporary and will resolve on their own, but may also be managed through the use of pain medications as directed by Dr. Demaree. He may also have you wear a compression garment for several weeks to further reduce swelling.
Each patient’s recovery timeline will vary according to the procedures performed, the surgical strategies employed, as well as their own body’s response to treatment. Most patients can return to work within two to three weeks, but they will need to continue avoiding any high-intensity or physical activities for several weeks or until Dr. Demaree approves.
Results
After swelling starts to subside, patients will be able to see the results of their mommy makeover, although they will become more apparent as any residual swelling subsides. Mommy makeovers provide long-lasting results when paired with a healthy lifestyle, as future weight changes can cause changes in one’s results.
